About this project
The Belgium based Cobalt Trio consists of Milan Verbist (piano), Wolf De Backer (double bass) and Klaas De Somer on drums. The group came together while studying at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and started to play together after a long period of isolation and lock-down.
With a clear synergy between the musicians the decided to formalize and started to work on original material. Finally in October 2020 the group was able to perform for a live audience in between the lock-downs. A few months later the young group received a grant from the Flemish Government to record an online concert during lock-down. The band then entered the ‘Johnny Green Giant Studio’ in March 2021 to record the concert with both audio and video.
In March 2022, the Cobalt Trio won the second prize in the ‘Under 25’ category of the ‘7 Virtual Jazz Club’ with the song ‘Milan’s Blues’ which was composed by Milan Verbist.
