Jung Stratmann

About this project

Jazzmedia and More is proud to present the Jung Stratmann Duo, an exciting new addition to our roster of talented artists. This Korean-German contemporary jazz duo, consisting of pianist Sujae Jung and double bassist Wolf Robert Stratmann, brings a unique blend of cultural influences and musical expertise to the New York jazz scene.

Sujae Jung, hailing from Busan, South Korea, and Wolf Robert Stratmann, from Bielefeld, Germany, first met during their jazz studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 2019. Their musical journey has since led them to New York City, where they are currently pursuing Master’s degrees in Performer-Composer at The New School. This academic pursuit has allowed them to further refine their craft and explore new musical territories.

The duo’s upcoming EP, “Tree Huggers,” set for release on May 5, 2025, promises to be a captivating exploration of nature and memory through the lens of contemporary jazz. Recorded at the renowned Bunker Studios in Brooklyn, the EP showcases the duo’s intimate musical conversation and their ability to create a warm, high-fidelity sound that builds upon their previous work.

Jung Stratmann’s music is characterized by intricate musical dialogue, creative harmonic interplay, and a deep emotional connection that reflects their diverse backgrounds and shared passion for storytelling through music. Their performances, which have graced venues across New York and Europe, demonstrate their versatility and ability to navigate various musical settings with ease.

Building upon the intimate duo setting of “Tree Huggers,” Jung Stratmann is set to expand their musical horizons with their upcoming album “Confluence.” This forthcoming release, scheduled for autumn 2025, will feature an expanded quartet lineup including renowned guitarist Steve Cardenas and accomplished drummer Marko Djordjevic. The quartet has already been performing together, with appearances at venues like Groove and ShapeShifter Lab in New York. This new project promises to showcase Jung and Stratmann’s musical vision in a broader context, blending their intricate duo interplay with the added textures and rhythmic complexity brought by Cardenas and Djordjevic. While maintaining the intimate connection that characterizes their work, “Confluence” is poised to demonstrate the duo’s versatility and their ability to create compelling music in a larger ensemble setting.

As Jazzmedia and More, we are excited to support and promote this talented duo as they continue to make their mark on the contemporary jazz landscape. The Jung Stratmann Duo represents the kind of innovative, cross-cultural collaboration that defines the future of jazz, and we look forward to sharing their musical journey with audiences worldwide.
