Mauro Sigura and DUNIA
Mauro Sigura and DUNIA
About this project
Jazz Media and More is thrilled to announce our latest representation: the talented multi-instrumentalist Mauro Sigura and his innovative project, DUNIA. This exciting addition to our roster showcases our commitment to promoting diverse and boundary-pushing artists in the world of jazz and world music.
Mauro Sigura, born in Turin and now based in Sardinia, has established himself as a versatile musician with a unique blend of jazz, world music, and Mediterranean sounds. His mastery of the oud and bouzouki, combined with his philosophical background, brings a depth and richness to his compositions that is truly captivating.
Sigura’s impressive career includes performances at prestigious festivals worldwide, such as DIM in Osaka and Tokyo, Sibiu Jazz Festival, and the Amman Jazz Festival. He has collaborated with renowned artists and groups, including the Italian world-music band Agricantus.
His latest project, DUNIA, marks an exciting new chapter in Sigura’s musical journey. Formed in 2023, the Mauro Sigura Electric Quartet features Marcello Peghin on electric guitar, Pierpaolo Ranieri on electric bass, and Evita Polidoro on drums. Their debut album, also titled “DUNIA,” was released under the S’ardmusic – Egea label and premiered at the European Jazz Festival 2023 at the Massimo Theatre in Cagliari, Italy.
DUNIA represents a bold fusion of sounds and styles. The project’s name, meaning “Woman” or “Mother” in some archaic cultures, reflects its exploration of universal themes through music. Sigura’s oud adapts to an electric context, creating a unique soundscape that blends jazz, fusion, Middle Eastern music, rock, and psychedelic elements.
The album seeks to bridge the gap between the particular and the universal, offering clear, incisive melodies set against a rich, layered sonic backdrop. This approach results in a sound that is both accessible and profoundly complex, inviting listeners to discover new depths with each listening.
Mauro Sigura’s accolades include winning the Mario Cervo Award twice (in 2016 and 2020) for Best Album Made in Sardinia, highlighting his significant contribution to the region’s music scene.
At Jazz Media and More, we are excited about the potential of Mauro Sigura and DUNIA to captivate audiences worldwide with their innovative approach to world jazz fusion. We believe this project represents the cutting edge of contemporary world music and are proud to be part of its journey.
